MACON, Ga. - USC Upstate's Jemeli Sang and North Florida's Christina King picked up their first career Atlantic Sun Women's Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week Honors, announced Wednesday by the league office. Sang posted the fastest time this season in the 3,000-meter run at the Niswonger Invitational, while King improved her conference-leading mark of 3.65m in the pole vault at the Embry-Riddle Challenge.
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Jemeli Sang, USC Upstate (Sr. – Distance – Eldoret, Kenya – Chemistry)
- First Career Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Honor
- Set school record in 3,000m run at Niswonger Invitational en route to first place
- Her time of 9:51.61 broke the previous mark by 12 seconds
- Ranks first in the A-Sun in the event
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Kendra Lobley (Fr., Lipscomb) – Posted two first-place finishes at TSU Invite; mile (5:15.75) and DMR (12:19.62)
- Erin Nixon (Sr., North Florida) – Earned two victories at Embry-Riddle Challenge; 800m (2:19.15) and 1000m (2:57.61)
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Christina King, North Florida (Sr. – Pole Vault – Port Orange, Fla. – Public Relations and Mathematics)
- First Career Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award
- Won the pole vault at the Embry-Riddle Challenge
- Her height of 3.65m (11'11.75") marked the highest in the A-Sun this season
- Leads the conference in the event by .15 meters
