MACON, Ga. - Jacksonville's junior duo of Bienna Freeman and Charlene Charles swept the Atlantic Sun Women's Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week Honors, announced Wednesday by the league office. Freeman posted the 34th fastest time nationally in the 800-meter run, while Charles compiled the 10th-best pentathlon score in the nation at the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup.
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Bienna Freeman, Jacksonville (Jr. – Distance – Newark, Del. – Sociology)
- First Career Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Honor
- Set program record in the 800m with a time of 2:09.35
- Took first place in event at Penn State Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup
- Ranks first in the A-Sun and 34th nationally in the event
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Jemeli Sang (Sr., USC Upstate) – Posted a fourth-place finish in mile run (5:06.81) at Kent Taylor Invitational
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Charlene Charles, Jacksonville (Jr. – Combined – Alfortville, France – Communications)
- Third Career Indoor Field Athlete of the Week award
- Broke her own program record in pentathlon with 3,971 points at Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup
- Won four events at the meet including; 60m hurdles, high jump, long jump and 800m
- Ranks 10th nationally in the event and leads the A-Sun
OTHER NOMINEES:
- Breana Kwasnik (Fr., USC Upstate) – Placed 2nd at Kent Taylor Invite in pole vault with heigt of 10'8"
- Katerina Vodova (Fr., ETSU) – Set personal record in pentathlon with 3,698 points at Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup
