Macon, Ga. – Jessica Marek of Kennesaw State and Meghan Morris of ETSU received Atlantic Sun Conference women’s soccer Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office on September 12.
Marek played in only one match last week, but posted her third consecutive shutout to extend Kennesaw State’s unbeaten streak to three matches. The Owls tied Big East foe Pittsburgh 0-0 in a match played at the UGA Soccer Complex in Athens, Ga., as Marek made three saves on her way to earning Defensive Player of the Week honors. With the whitewash, the senior goalkeeper stretched her current scoreless streak to 311 minutes and recorded her 29th career shutout. Pittsburgh had knocked off #10 West Virginia 2-1 just two weeks ago. Marek becomes the first repeat Player of the Week winner this season and has three shutouts in four appearances. The Huntsville, Ala., native is majoring in Marketing at Kennesaw State.
Meghan Morris becomes the second straight ETSU student-athlete to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors. Morris scored two clutch goals for the Lady Buccaneers last week. In ETSU’s 2-1 win over Radford, Morris provided the equalizer after the Highlanders were spotted a halftime lead. Just a couple of days later, the midfielder tallied another game-tying goal, this one with just seven seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime with Jacksonville State. The Bowie, Md., native currently ranks second in the A-Sun with three goals this season. Morris is majoring in Mass Communications and Broadcasting.
