Macon, Ga. – Pip Meo of Kennesaw State and Janeke Simpkins of Florida Atlantic earned Atlantic Sun Conference women’s soccer Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office on September 19.
Meo provided a huge lift to the Kennesaw State offense, sparking the team to the GSU/Marriott Invitational title last weekend. The junior forward scored three goals, including the game-winner in both matches. Against former A-Sun member Georgia State, Meo tallied the match’s only goal in the 60th minute to lift KSU to the victory. Two days later, the Masterson, New Zealand native secured her selection as tournament Offensive Most Valuable Player with a pair of goals in the first 11 minutes versus Tennessee Tech. The Owls saw their unbeaten streak extend to five matches with the pair of wins. Meo is majoring in Sport Management and earns her first A-Sun Player of the Week nod. Kennesaw State travels to Jacksonville this weekend to open conference play with match at UNF and JU.
Janeke Simpkins starred for a Florida Atlantic defense that posted a pair of shutouts and allowed just four shots in two games last week. In the Owls’ A-Sun opener, the FAU defense did not surrender a shot to the Ospreys while Simpkins netted her first collegiate goal. Just two days later, the Royal Palm Beach, Fla., native helped lead Florida Atlantic to a 1-0 victory over regional rival Florida International. Simpkins has yet to declare a major and captures her first A-Sun Player of the Week award. The Owls jump back into league play with a pair of games in the Music City versus Lipscomb and Belmont.
