DeLand, Fla. -- Jennifer Hays' two goals helped to lift Stetson women's soccer past visiting Stony Brook 2-1 in both teams' season openers Friday night at the Stetson Soccer Field.

After falling behind 1-0 early on in the evening, Hays (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.) hit the left side of the net off the goalkeeper's hands after a free kick from junior Brittany Jones (Apopka, Fla.) at 18:23.

Hays then notched the gamewinner, the sophomore's third career goal, less than five minutes later when she dribbled past the Seawolves' defense and slid the ball past the Stony Brook keeper.

Danielle Lewis dished out a ball for Jackie Anthony to hit the left corner of the net for the Seawolves' lone goal of the game at 6:40 to them a 1-0 lead.

Junior April Eilering (Troy, Ill.) earned the win in goal for the Hatters, grabbing five saves and allowing one goal in 90 minutes. Cindy Bennett suffered the loss for Stony Brook, allowing both Stetson goals while making two saves in 90 minutes.

The Hatters are in action again Sunday when they host McNeese State at the Stetson Soccer Field at 2 p.m.
