GWU Takes 1-0 Win Over Austin Peay

Sunday, August 28, 2005

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Gardner-Webb continued its trend of silencing the opposition on Sunday with a 1-0 shutout win over Austin Peay. Counting its preseason victory over High Point as well as the cancelled match with Southeast Missouri State, GWU has held its opponents scoreless for over 225 minutes of action.

Sunday’s match was also threatened by rain, which forced play to be stopped at the 29:00 minute mark. The delay would last for over an hour and 10 minutes before the teams were allowed to return to the field.

Gardner-Webb struck quickly after the delay as Angie Harvey found Cristin Yasinsac for the game-winner at the 34:18 mark in the first half.

That was all the scoring GWU’s defense would need as Corinne Razem was a wall in goal, collecting eight saves in 90 minutes of action to preserve the 1-0 Gardner-Webb win.

GWU (1-0) will open its 2005 home slate on Tuesday night when it hosts Winthrop under the lights at 7 p.m.
