Stetson Soccer Splits Exhibitoin Doubleheader

DeLand, Fla. – Stetson soccer split as the women fell 2-0 to Tampa and the men defeated Florida Southern 3-0 in exhibition matches Saturday at the Stetson Soccer Field.

Brittney Evans and Sarah Stack both netted goals in the second half of play for Spartans as their goalkeeper Shannon Aiken held the Hatters scoreless for 90 mintues. Junior April Eilering (Troy, Ill.) allowed Tampa's two goals in 90 minutes in goal for Stetson.

Freshman Brian Bell (Bradenton, Fla.) started off the scoring for the men with a goal in the first period, while sophomore Tanner Wolfe tallied two goals in the second half for the Hatters. Gabe Shibly (Titusville, Fla.), Kirk Labusch (Brandon, Fla.) and Sean Marshall (Lake Forest, Ill.) dished out assists on the evening. Jeff Smeraglinolo (Rockledge, Fla.), Evan White (Surrey, B.C.) and Michael Winchester (Houston, Texas) all combined for the shutout in goal for Stetson.

The women are in action again when they open regular season play Friday, August 26 at home at 7 p.m. and the men look to host Rollins College Tuesday at home in their second exhibition match at 7 p.m.
