Wednesday, August 12, 2009 MACON, Ga. – The Atlantic Sun Conference has four incoming student-athletes on ESPNRise.com’s Boy’s and Girl’s High School Soccer All-America list. On the men’s side, midfielders Jonathan Menoza (Longwood, Fla.), who is attending Stetson University, and Alexei Reyes (Dallas, Texas), attending FGCU, earned Second Team honors.Reyes is on the ESPN-rise top 100 recruits for 2009 (number 46). Midfielder Jeremy Vollmer Westfield, Ind.), another recruit for FGCU, earned an Honorable Mention spot on the All-America team. Only eight states offer high school soccer in the winter. California lead the way with 18 players selected to the three teams, followed by Texas with nine and Florida with seven. Defenseman Kelsey Latham (Littleton, Colo.), a mid-west recuit for Jacksonville University, earned an Honorable Mention spot on the All-America team. Latham is one of seven honorable mentions from the state of Colorado. The spring season of high school girls’ soccer offers the deepest collection of soccer talent during the school year, paired with the 22 states participating, The ESPNRISE.com All-America squad is selected by editor Sheldon Shealer after consultation with coaches and journalists from around the country. |
