Monday, August 31, 2009 MACON, Ga. - UNF’s Katelin Swift earned Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors with a weekend performance at the Osprey Classic that included three goals and an assist. Kennesaw State’s Staci Pugh picked up the Defensive Player of the Week nod by posting a 1-1 record that included picking up 10 saves against No. 17 Minnesota. Swift scored three goals on the weekend and led the Ospreys to a 1-1 record in the Osprey Classic. The education major found the net twice, once on a penalty kick, in a 4-3 loss to Georgia State. The senior from Jacksonville, Fla., scored a game-winning goal against Coastal Carolina and added an assist. For the weekend she maintained a 100 percent shot on goal shooting percentage. Pugh, a junior goalkeeper, allowed one goal against Francis Marion and picked up four saves in a 2-1 win for the Owls. The Fayetteville, Ga. native tied a career high in saves with 10 against the nationally-ranked Golden Gopher. The only goal the health and physical education major allowed came with six minutes remaining in the match. The Atlantic Sun Conference is an 11-member league committed to Building Winners for Life. Other Top Performers: Tessa Gavilsky - Stetson (F, Granite City, Ill., Jr. Major - Integrative Health Science) - Gavilsky scored her first career hat trick in a 7-0 Stetson win over Embry-Riddle Thursday. She played 84 minutes and picked up 2 shots against No. 5 Florida State on Sunday. She leads the A-Sun in scoring with 9 points and goals with 4 on the season. Olivia Tucker - Mercer (MF, Peachtree City, Ga., So., Major - Biology) - Tucker scored her first goal of the year against Georgia, Sunday, giving Mercer a 1-0 second half lead. In two road games at Vanderbilt and Georgia, Tucker posted four shots, with two coming on goal. Andrea Garavaglia - Stetson (GK, Webster Groves, Mo., Jr. Major - Psychology) - Picked up her second consecutive shutout over Embry-Riddle on Thursday. On Sunday she was the first keeper to hold the No. 5 Florida State Seminoles scoreless in the first half. She made 8 spectacular saves against FSU and 5 against Embry-Riddle. Brittany Daughtry - USC Upstate (GK, Smithfield, N.C., Sr., Major - Pre Med) - Playing in her first match of her senior season, USC Upstate's Brittany Daughtry recorded a career high 14 saves last Monday night at Furman. The 14 saves by Daughtry also tie an Upstate single game record. She is the fourth goalkeeper to record 14 saves in a single game and the second since the Spartans moved to Division I play. |
