A-Sun Opens Season With Four Victories

Kennesaw State 4, College of Charleston 3 - The Kennesaw State women’s soccer team used a strong start and a thrilling finish to win its 2010 season opener over the College of Charleston Cougars, 4-3, on a warm Friday evening at Patriot’s Point Field in Charleston, S.C.

The win now gives Kennesaw State a 4-3 record in season openers since switching over to Division I in 2004. - Full Article at KSUOwls.com

Lipscomb 2, Chattanooga 1 -
The Lipscomb Lady Bisons spotted Tennessee-Chattanooga a one goal lead in the first half and then came back to score two in the second for a 2-1 win Friday night at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex. 

It was the season opener for both teams. 

Hunter Summers, playing in her first collegiate game, was credited with the first goal of the game on a deflection in front of the Chattanooga goal at the 63:18 mark. - Full Article at LipscombSports.com

Jacksonville 3, Furman 2 (2OT) -
It was seeming like déjà-vu all over again for the JU women’s soccer team in its season opener against Furman before the Dolphins avoided a draw on junior Liz Fink's driven goal, downing the Paladins, 3-2, in double overtime in Greenville, S.C.

The Dolphins (1-0) used scores from three different players, with two assists, to avenge last season’s loss to the Paladins (0-1) in front of 2,177 at Stone Soccer Stadium. - Full Article at JUDolphins.com


Stetson 4, FAU 3 - Here we go again... Stetson's Dynamic Duo struck again as the Hatters defeated Florida Atlantic 4-3 Friday night in the season-opener for both teams. Senior Katie Bitetto (Jacksonville, Fla.) assisted on the game's first goal and scored on another, while senior Tessa Gavilsky (Granite City, Ill.) delivered a pair of assists and scored the game-winning goal with just under six minutes remaining in regulation play.

Last season Gavilsky was voted as the back-to-back Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Year and led the league in scoring for the second consecutive season. Bitetto was tops in the A-Sun with 11 assists and 5th in scoring with a career-high 21 points. She finished 12th in the nation with 0.55 assists per game. - Full Article at GoHatters.com
