Bruins Sweep Weekend Play and Weekly Awards

MACON, Ga. – Belmont made a clean sweep of the Atlantic Sun women’s soccer weekly awards as Lauren Paynter and Jessica Rix both earned their first career player of the week awards, announced by the league office on Monday.  The Bruins were the only A-Sun team to record a 2-0 mark in the second week of conference play with victories against USC Upstate and ETSU. In those two games, Paynter totaled five points (one goal and three assists), while Rix helped Belmont to its first shutout of the season before knocking in the game-winner against ETSU in double-overtime.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Lauren Paynter, Belmont (Forward – So. – Danville, Ky. – Nursing)
• First Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Totaled five points on the week with one goal and three assists
• Helped the Bruins to a 2-0 week in conference play with wins against ETSU and USC Upstate
• Assisted on the double-overtime game-winner against ETSU, her second assist of the game
• Scored the final goal in a 5-0 victory against the Spartans

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Jessica Rix, Belmont (D – Sr. – Carmel, Ind. – Biology)
• First A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week award
• Netted the game-winner against ETSU in double-overtime
• Anchored defense that recorded first shutout of the season against USC Upstate
• Helped the team to a 2-0 conference record

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Brittany Burt (MF, FGCU) – scored game-winner against Campbell; first goal of her career
• Rachel Collins (GK, USC Upstate) – picked up shutout against Lipscomb with eight saves
• Jessica Jackyra (D, USC Upstate) – netted game-winning goal in 1-0 win against Lipscomb
• Courtney Jenista (F, Stetson) – tallied a goal and an assist in 4-1 win against Campbell
• Alyssa Mahan (F, Kennesaw State) – scored the game-winner against UNF
• Terri Miller (F, ETSU) – scored both goals for Bucs against Belmont; tied for A-Sun lead in goals
• Stephanie Powers (GK, FGCU) – registered third-straight shutout in 1-0 win against Campbell
• Staci Pugh (GK, Kennesaw State) – made 11 saves on the week; tallied a 1-1 record for the Owls
• Cagney Valloch (GK, Mercer) – made 14 saves on the week; recorded 1-0 shutout vs. Jacksonville
