Collins and Hudson Take Weekly Awards

MACON, Ga. – Mercer’s Kacie Hudson and USC Upstate’s Rachel Collins won the Atlantic Sun Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors after their impressive showings on the weekend, announced Monday by the league office. Collins etched her name into Spartan history by becoming the first women’s soccer player to earn A-Sun honors after posting two double-overtime shutouts, while Hudson won her fourth overall weekly award for her two-goal performance against Campbell.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Kacie Hudson, Mercer (Defender – Sr. – Marietta, Ga. – Business)
• First Career A-Sun Player of the Week; Three Previous Defensive Player of the Week honors
• Scored both of Mercer’s goals in a 2-1 victory against Campbell
• Leads the team in points (10), goals (5) and game-winning goals (3)
• Notched goals on a penalty kick and rebound on corner kick

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Rachel Collins, USC Upstate (GK – Fr. – Raleigh, N.C. – Elementary/Special Education)
• First A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week award; First in USC Upstate history
• Recorded two double-overtime shutouts in ties against FGCU and Stetson
• Stopped 17 shots in total on the weekend; including a conference-season high 12 against FGCU
• Leads the conference in saves on the season with 103

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Courtney Mack (MF, USC Upstate) – helped the Spartans to a pair of shutouts on the week
• Alyssa Mahan (F, Kennesaw State) – tallied a goal and assist in the Owls victory against Campbell
• Lauren Hopfensperger (F, UNF) – scored the game-winner against Lipscomb
• Jessica Swartzentruber (F, FGCU) – netted first career game-winner against ETSU
• Staci Pugh (GK, Kennesaw State) – set the program record for saves in shutout against Campbell
• Brittany Hahn (GK, UNF) – earned two victories on the week making six saves
• Devon Dowell (D, Jacksonville) – anchored the Dolphins defense for two shutouts
• KC Corellus (D, FGCU) – led the Eagles defense to fifth-consecutive shutout
• Megan Masch (GK, ETSU) – stopped penalty kick against Stetson to preserve lead
