Owls and Eagles Take Weekly Awards

MACON, Ga. – Kennesaw State’s Alma Gardarsdottir and FGCU’s Kathleen Hunter earned their first Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week awards after leading their teams to undefeated weekends, announced Monday by the league office. Gardarsdottir, a freshman, registered two goals on the week, which included the game-winner against USC Upstate and the game-tying penalty kick against ETSU in the 86th minute, while Hunter converted a penalty kick of her own against Lipscomb as the team’s incredible six-game shutout streak extended to 603 consecutive minutes before finally snapping.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Alma Gardarsdottir, Kennesaw State (Forward – Fr. – Grindavik, Iceland – Psychology)
• First Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Scored two goals on the week; one in each match
• Tallied game-winning goal against USC Upstate in a 2-0 victory
• Converted a penalty kick in the 86th minute to tie ETSU, 1-1

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Kathleen Hunter, FGCU (D – R-Jr. – Safety Harbor, Fla. – Health Science)
• First A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week award
• Six-game shutout streak snapped at 603 consecutive minutes
• Scored first goal of the season on a penalty kick against Lipscomb
• Allowed only 11 combined shots on the weekend; four of which came on net

OTHER NOMINEES:
• Olivia Elias (MF, FGCU) – Tallied five points against Lipscomb with two goals and one assist
• Staci Pugh (GK, Kennesaw State) – Stopped five shots en route to a 1-0-1 weekend
• Megan Rock (D, Belmont) – Netted the double-overtime game winner against Stetson
• Kimberly Ledwell (MF/F USC Upstate) – Notched first career goal in match against Mercer
• Rachel Collins (GK, USC Upstate) – Recorded 10 saves over two matches; leads A-Sun in saves
• Lauren Hopfensperger (F, UNF) – Scored two goals against Campbell; leads the A-Sun in goals
