Sunday, November 06, 2011 FORT MYERS, Fla. - The 2011 Atlantic Sun Women's Soccer Championship features the top-seeded FGCU Eagles and sixth-seeded Mercer Bears, the defending tournament champions, on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Eagles reached the final with a 2-1 win against North Florida on Friday, while Mercer advanced to the final with a 4-2 advantage on penalty kicks against Jacksonville in the first round and a 1-0 overtime victory vs. ETSU on Friday in the semifinals. Mercer will be seeking back-to-back A-Sun Championship titles, while FGCU searches for the program's first title in the Eagles first appearance in the conference tournament. With a win on Sunday, Mercer will become the first six-seed to capture the A-Sun Championship and also the first team to win back-to-back titles since UCF in 2001-03. If the Eagles protect their home pitch on Sunday, they will become the first team since Kennesaw State in 2007 to win the conference title in their first appearance and the eighth host program to claim the conference crown.
