MACON, Ga. – Eight FGCU women’s soccer student-athletes landed on the 2013 Atlantic Sun All-Conference First and Second Teams, announced Thursday by the league office.
The Player of the Year Honor went to an ETSU player for the third-consecutive year as Sarah Zadrazil continued the Buccaneers streak of adorning the top player in the league. Zadrazil was the 2012 A-Sun Freshmen of the Year and dished out a program-record 11 assists this season while scoring a team-high eight goals.
Defensive Player of the Year Honors were given to Jacksonville's Ally Lee as she racked up more than 1,400 minutes on the season in the center-back position for the Dolphins. Lee held down the back line for three shutouts this season and added two assists of her own as she received unanimous first-team votes.
Brittany Brown grabbed A-Sun Goalkeeper of the Year accolades, while her teammate Tabby Tindell posted a stand-out season to open her collegiate career as the 2013 A-Sun Freshman of the Year after leading the Eagle's squad to the A-Sun Season Title for the fourth-consecutive season.
Brown secured seven shutouts this season and collected a .795 save percentage between the posts. Tindell tallied unanimous first-team votes as she is tied at the top of the A-Sun in goals (14) and points (31), setting a FGCU single-season program record in both categories.
Joining Brown and Tindell from FGCU on the first-team are sophomore defender Emma Blackwell with an unanimous selection as well as fellow defender Tessa Berger and midfielders Ally Kasun and Paulina Speckmaier.
FGCU’s Head Coach Jim Blankenship was named the 2013 A-Sun Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
The second-seeded Jacksonville squad found forward Kaitlyn Bassett on the first team, while No. 3 Kennesaw State landed defender Alma Gardarsdottir on the squad.
Stetson's senior midfielder Amber Grose earned first-team honors as the Hatters head into the postseason for the first time since the 2010 season.
Freshman Ellen Lundy of Lipscomb led her team to program history to collect first team accolades. Lundy finished tied with Tindell to lead the A-Sun in scoring (14) and points (31), setting a single-season program record in both categories. Lundy is the first LU player to make the first team selection since the 2007 season.
The 2013 A-Sun Women's Soccer Championship begins on Saturday with the quarterfinal match-ups. The semifinals and final games will be held in Fort Myers, Florida on November 8th and 10th.
