SU's Kiedis and GWU's Wyszynski Claim Weekly Awards
Date Posted: 9/25/2006
MACON, Ga. – Stetson’s Bethany Kiedis and Gardner-Webb’s Sarah Wyszynski earned A-Sun Player of the Week honors after leading their respective teams to unbeaten records in the opening weekend of Atlantic Sun Conference play.
Kiedis helped bring a stagnant Stetson offense to life on her way to winning A-Sun Player of the Week accolades. The sophomore scored the game-tying goal in the Hatters draw with preseason conference favorite Kennesaw State and bounced back on Sunday to net the game-winning goal against ETSU. Kiedis has scored three of Stetson’s last four goals with the Hatters posting a 2-0-1 mark over that three-match stretch. Since opening the year 1-5-0 and scoring just three goals, Stetson is unbeaten in their last four matches while chalking up seven goals. Kiedis, a native of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., ranks second in the A-Sun with her pair of game-winning strikes. She majors in Rehabilitative Studies.
Wyszynski claimed her second Defensive POTW nod after posting consecutive shutouts. After breezing by Lipscomb in a match where she faced just four shots, the goalkeeper earned her spot against Belmont. The Wilbraham, Mass., native helped the Bulldogs blank the Bruins who are the second highest scoring team in the A-Sun. Wyszynski lowered her goals against average to 1.00 while running her season shutout total to five, second in the A-Sun and third on Gardner-Webb’s single season record book. The sophomore has yet to determine a major.
