MACON, Ga. – Clutch performance in the final weekend of conference play helped Kennesaw State’s Laura Tucker and Gardner-Webb’s Sarah Wyszynski grab Atlantic Sun Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday.
Tucker ran wild in Kennesaw State’s routs of Lipscomb and Belmont which secured the Owls their first A-Sun regular season title as well as an undefeated record in conference play. In the two games, the senior scored four goals and added two assists. In addition to netting the game-winner against the Bisons, Tucker dominated the title-clinching match versus Belmont with her two-goal, two-assist performance. The Tuscaloosa, Ala., native now leads the conference with ten goals and 23 points on the season. Tucker majors in Sports Management.
Wyszynski recorded her seventh shutout of the season in GWU's lone match of the week, a 1-0 victory over Campbell, helping keep the team's postseason berth alive. The sophomore turned away seven shots on goal to earn the Defensive Player of the Week nod. It marked the seventh shutout of the season for her, moving her into second-place tie on GWU's single-season list. She is now tied for fifth on the career chart as well. Her 77 saves on the year are the eighth-most in a single year at GWU. The Wilbraham, Mass., native has yet to declare a major.
