JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The ETSU women's soccer team picked up its first ever victory over the league leading Kennesaw State Owls, 3-1 on Sunday's A-Sun Game of the Week at Summers-Taylor Soccer Stadium. The Bucs improve to 7-5-3 overall and 3-4-1 in conference play while the Owls fall to 12-3-0 and 7-1-0.
ETSU and Kennesaw State battle for the early lead before the Owls took a 1-0 lead as Caitlin Dingle beat the Buccaneer defenders to net her 13th goal of the season during the 30th minute. The Bucs continued to battle but trailed going into halftime.
In the second period ETSU tied the match at 1-1 when freshman midfielder Kelly Brinkman (Clearwater, Fla.) picked up her fifth goal of the season from 40 yards out on a pass from Jordan Monty (Mesquite, Texas) in the 67th minute.
Brinkman returned the favor just under 10 minutes later when she serviced the ball to Jennifer Altimier (Cincinnati, Ohio) who found Monty inside the box to give the Bucs the 2-1 advantage. The goal was Monty's eighth of the season which ties her record from last season.
ETSU continued to pour it on when a trio of Knoxville Bucs combined to give ETSU the 3-1 lead. Katie Green (Knoxville, Tenn.) netted her fifth goal on passes from Meredith Goldman (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Alex Meehan (Knoxville, Tenn.) in the 80th minute.
