MACON, Ga. – Stetson’s Sarah Stock and Gardner-Webb’s Sarah Wyszynski came up with timely plays for their teams to earn the final Atlantic Sun Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office.
Stock lifted the Hatters into the postseason with her Golden Goal two minutes into overtime. Stetson twice held the lead versus upstart Florida Gulf Coast in their regular season finale with a postseason berth on the line, but Amber McCall answered twice for the Eagles to force overtime. In the extra session, Stock made Senior Day one to remember by depositing the game-winner in the net in front of the home crowd. The Deltona, Fla., native recorded her eighth goal of the season and climbed to third in career points at Stetson with 53. A loss would have eliminated the Hatters from postseason consideration. Stock majors in Biology and will lead the No. 5 seed Hatters into a first round match-up with No. 4 ETSU in the opening round of the 2007 Atlantic Sun Championship on Wednesday.
Wyszynski stopped five shots in Gardner-Webb’s 1-0 shutout of Campbell. The junior did her part in leading the Bulldogs to a victory they had to have to keep their slim postseason hopes alive. However, after Stock’s overtime strike, GWU saw their regular season end. The Wilbraham, Mass., native majors in Sports Management.
