Macon, Ga. - After going 3-0 in singles play, ETSU's Sandie Knight was named
Atlantic Sun Player of the Week today by the conference office.
Knight knocked off MTSU's Pooja Kommireddi on Saturday, by a score of 8-5. The
Adamstown, Austrailia native came back the next the day to win two matches in
straight sets.
In her first set on Sunday against. Brittany Woodgett of Alabama A&M, Knight
scored 24 points in a row to win the set 6-0. This is a first in her career
and a first in ETSU history. She took the second set 6-0. Knight also defeated
Caroline Page of Kennesaw State 6-0, 6-0.
She is majoring in communications.
ETSU will host Mercer Sunday, Feb. 12 at 12 p.m.
The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Tuesday during
the 2006 women's tennis campaign.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb,
Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
