Macon, Ga. - Tasting victory in five matches led Catherine Canady (Jacksonville,
Fla./Undecided) to being named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week today by the
conference office.
Canady went undefeated last week, going 2-0 in singles mark 3-0 in doubles.
She knocked off Anastasiya Shevechenko of Rollins 6-3, 6-1 in singles play and
teamed up with Anna Leonenko for another victory over Shevchenko and her teammate
Daenetta Thompson. Rollins is ranked 7th in Division II.
On Sunday, Canady defeated No. 54-ranked Florida State's Alina Mihailescu in
three hard-fought sets, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. She and Leonenko also defeated Mihailescu
and Suzanna Mansour, 8-6.
Stetson will be take on UNF, Saturday, Feb. 18 at noon.
The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Tuesday during
the 2006 women's tennis campaign.
The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb,
Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
