Tuesday, February 21, 2006 Macon, Ga. - Mercer's Kelly Blount (Martinez, Ga./Pre-Dentistry) was named Atlantic Sun Player of the Week today by the conference office.Blount helped the Bears earn their first two victories of the season with four wins. On Feb. 16, Blount defeated Marcia Barnes of Jacksonville State, 6-0, 6-3, in singles and with teammate Teresina Pazsoldan, knocked off Michelle Dushner and Erin Higgs. Against conference foe Jacksonville, Blount defeated Elizabeth Styles in straight sets and again with Pazsoldan she picked up the win against Megan Williams and Lena Willi. The Bears will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 24 when they host Stetson at 2 p.m. The Atlantic Sun Conference announces the Player of the Week every Tuesday during the 2006 women's tennis campaign. The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson. |
