Tuesday, March 14, 2006 Macon, Ga. - Iva Stojancev of Campbell University has been named Atlantic Sun Conference women’s tennis player of the week ending Mar. 12.The junior from Belgrade, Serbia went 3-0 in singles play last week as Campbell stretched its winning streak to four-straight dual matches and improved to 9-2 on the year, 3-1 vs. Atlantic Sun members. She did not lose a set in singles to run her record to 9-1 for the spring campaign, 11-3 on the year. Stojancev is just one singles victory shy of tying her season-best (12) set in 2004 and equaled last year. She has run her career singles record to 35-22. In doubles, Stojancev owns a 5-3 record with Liza Bensimon at the number-two position heading into Thursday’s 2:00 p.m. home match vs. Wingate. Stojancev is the second Lady Camel to earn A-Sun Player of the Week recognition this spring. Nina Surviladze gained the intial honor of the spring season on Jan. 31. The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson. |
