Gardner-Webb Defeats Lipscomb in Women Tennis Tournament

MACON, Ga. - The No. 8 Gardner-Webb women's tennis squad defeated No. 9 Lipscomb on Wednesday, 4-2. The Bulldogs (6-17, 2-4 A-Sun) move on to face no. 1 East Tennessee State in tomorrow's quarterfinals.

Lipscomb (7-14, 0-6 A-Sun) got off to a good start taking the doubles' point, but Gardner-Webb fought back picking up wins in four singles' matches to clinch a date in the quarterfinals.

Sara Zirnheld notched a victory at no. 3 singles over Olivia Ellis, and teamed up with Amy Beavers for a win at no. 2 doubles.

Jenny Gomez (no. 1), Monica Walser (no. 4) and Tracey Tonsor (no. 6) also registered points for the Bulldogs.

Thursday's match is slated for 11:30 a.m. at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center.
