Tuesday, March 13, 2007

Macon, Ga. -- Campbell's Tanya Ahuja has been selected as the A-Sun's Player of the Week after a week in which she posted a 3-0 record and extended her current winning streak to eight matches, league officials announced today.

Ahuja, a New Delhi, India native, helped clinch Campbell's 4-3 win over North Florida with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory at the No. 6 singles spot. Her win over UNF's Carolina de Melo was the first of the week but certainly not her last. Ahuja marched past Stetson's Daniella Palmiotto (6-0, 6-2) on Wednesday before the Fighting Camels downed Lipscomb 7-0, including a 7-5, 6-3 win for Ahuja over Caitlin Khouri.

The sophomore is being honored for the first time as the POTW. She is the first student-athlete from Campbell to be honored as such this season.

The Atlantic Sun Player of the Week is announced every Tuesday during the 2007 tennis season.

The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
