Tuesday, March 23, 2010 JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women’s tennis team has moved up to 64th in the ITA National Rankings as released on Tuesday. The Ospreys were previously ranked 70th. “Our team has continued to work hard this season,” said head coach Rodrigo Puebla. “As we continue to move up the rankings it is a real testament to how our work has paid off. I am glad to see that the team is being recognized for all of its efforts.” UNF is currently 14-1 overall and 6-0 in the Atlantic Sun. The Ospreys have shutout five of their past six opponents, 7-0. This season the Ospreys have picked up wins over A-Sun preseason favorite Stetson as well as conference foes, Florida Gulf Coast, Belmont, Lipscomb, Mercer and Kennesaw State. Out-of-conference, UNF has defeated the Big 12’s Iowa State, Conference USA’s UTEP and Ohio Valley Conference preseason favorite, Eastern Kentucky. Sophomore Aline Berkenbrock and junior Lauren Holton are undefeated in singles on the season. Berkenbrock is 15-0 at No. 1 while Holton has posted a 13-0 record, playing primarily at the No. 6. Senior Raquel Castro is 12-2 at the No. 2 and sophomore transfer Danielle Day has posted a 14-1 record, primarily at the No. 3. Junior Victoria Krook is 14-1, appearing primarily at the No. 4 singles. |
