Friday, April 16, 2010

DeLAND, Fla. – Top-seeded and 70th-ranked ETSU shut out fourth-seeded Campbell 4-0 in the second semifinal of the Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Tennis Championships Friday night at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. Yevgeniya Stupak shined for the Lady Bucs, winning in singles and doubles.

Campbell gave ETSU all it wanted on the doubles courts, forcing the doubles point to come down to the final match. Stupak and Kelly Holtzhausen rolled through Lisa Sutton and Borislava Nikolova 8-1 on Court 1, but Blanca Saenz and Anais Gomar kept the Camels in it with an 8-3 win over Diana Navrostska and Tara Sheets on Court 3. In the end, Paula Jaime and Karina Kedzo put the Lady Bucs ahead to stay with their 8-5 Court 2 win over Cristina Garcia and Ana Surviladze.

ETSU won three quick and decisive singles victories to put the match, and the 13 overall hours of tennis on Stetson’s campus today, to bed. Stupak beat Sutton 6-1, 6-0 at the top of the lineup, Andra Voinea cruised past Gomar 6-2, 6-2 on Court 6 and Navrostska put the exclamation point on the night with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Surviladze at #5 singles.

ETSU will attempt to win its second consecutive A-Sun tournament championship tomorrow at 1 p.m. against second-seeded and 64th-ranked UNF. The Ospreys defeated third-seeded host Stetson 4-1 in the first women’s semifinal.
