MACON, Ga. – Campbell’s Davy Sum and Kennesaw State’s Alexandra Apostu continued their undefeated singles play as the duo won the Atlantic Sun Tennis Players of the Week, announced Wednesday by the league office. For Sum, it represents his sixth career weekly award, while the freshman Apostu earns her first career honor.
MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Davy Sum, Campbell (Sr. – Strasbourg, France – Business Administration)
• Sixth Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Earned two more victories at No. 1 Singles to improve record to 4-0 without dropping a set
• Defeated Kinshuk Sharma of UNC-Wilmington (6-1, 6-2) and Liberty’s Siim Tuus (6-4, 6-4)
• Added a doubles victory against Liberty’s Tuus and Piotr Kruk (8-4)
OTHER NOMINEES:
• Edgar Rodriguez (Jr., USC Upstate) – Rallied from a 4-1 hole in the first set to claim a straight-sets victory at No. 1 Singles against Coastal Carolina's Danny Heidecker
• Gokalp Ozdemir (So., Kennesaw State) – Went 6-4 overall this week, including a 3-1 mark at the No. 2 singles spot, to guide Kennesaw State to a 3-2 week
WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Alexandra Apostu, Kennesaw State (Fr. – Bucharest, Romania – Nursing)
• First Career A-Sun Player of the Week award
• Playing at No. 3 Singles and Doubles, recorded a perfect 8-0 record in five matches on the week
• Yet to lose a match this season as she stands at 12-0
• Bested competitors from Presbyterian, Jacksonville State, Young Harris, Alabama A&M and Alabama State
OTHER NOMINEES:
• Lisa Sutton (Sr., Campbell) – Defeated UNC-Wilmington’s Olga Blank in a three-set thriller
• Ana-Sofia Camberos (Jr., USC Upstate) – Claimed a victory against Presbyterian’s Cara Caruso at No. 3 Singles
• Natalia Nunes (So., Belmont) – Won both her singles and doubles match against North Alabama
