Friday, April 08, 2011 MACON, Ga. - The final weekend of play holds high drama for Atlantic Sun Conference tennis. Despite the field for the 2011 A-Sun Women’s Tennis Championship being set nearly two weeks ago, jockeying for tournament seeding comes down to the final weekend of competition. ETSU secured the No. 1 seed last weekend but the remaining field could fall in a number of ways. One of the more outrageous scenarios features a potential five-way tie for second place. With only six teams participating in this year’s championship, the top-two seeds will receive a bye into the semifinals. Below is the various seeding options for each team as well as the remaining slate of conference matches. Note that this is not an exhaustive list of scenarios but a brief highlight of potential outcomes. ETSU (13-6, 9-1 A-Sun) Clinched No. 1 Campbell (12-6, 7-2) Best possible seed: No. 2 with win versus USC Upstate on Friday. Other seed possibilities: No. 3 UNF (12-4, 7-2) Best possible seed: No. 2 if Campbell loses to USC Upstate AND UNF defeats JU. Other seed possibilities: No. 3, No. 5 or No. 6 Stetson (16-3, 7-3) Best possible seed: No. 4 in all scenarios except where Kennesaw State defeats Mercer AND JU defeats UNF AND USC Upstate defeats Campbell. Other seed possibilities: No. 5 Kennesaw State (17-5, 6-3) Best possible seed: No. 3 if Kennesaw State defeats Mercer AND JU defeats UNF AND USC Upstate defeats Campbell. Other seed possibilities: No. 5 or No. 6 Jacksonville (15-4, 6-3) Best possible seed: No. 3 if JU defeats UNF AND Mercer defeats Kennesaw State; or JU defeats UNF AND Kennesaw State defeats Mercer AND USC Upstate defeats Campbell. Other seed possibilities: No. 4, No. 5 or No. 6 Follow AtlanticSun.org all weekend for updates. |
