Macon, Ga. -- In the final week of conference play for Jacksonville, the Dolphins
clinched a share of their first ever regular season title and Lena Willi finished
A-Sun play with a perfect 8-0 mark, earning wins over Belmont and Lipscomb en
route to being named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, league officials announced
today.
Willi, a junior from Freiburg, Germany, defeated Belmont's Elizabeth Conyer
in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, and then dropped Lipscomb's Erin Moakler 6-1, 6-0.
Losing just one game all week, Willi improved to 18-3 overall, including a perfect
8-0 record in conference action. Willi is currently riding a 12-match winning
streak, the longest active streak in the Atlantic Sun.
The 2005 Freshman-of-the-Year is being honored as the Player of the Week for
the second time in her career. Willi was last honored on April 12, 2005.
The Atlantic Sun Player of the Week is announced every Tuesday during the
2007 tennis season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and
Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
