Macon, Ga. -- Becoming just the first female in school history to amass 100
career victories, ETSU's Masha Ilina has been selected at the Atlantic Sun's
Player of the Week, league officials announced today.
Ilina, a senior from Kyiv, Ukraine, defeated Lauriane Auvergne of Mercer in
the No.1 singles slot (6-1, 6-2) and paired with Olya Batsula to pick up a doubles
win (8-2).
Although Ilina is the first female to reach the 100 career wins plateau, she
is the fourth tennis player, male or female, to reach such a mark in ETSU history.
The honor is the first of its kind for Ilina, who was tabbed the Player of
the Year following the Lady Bucs' rise to the top of the A-Sun 2006. Ilina was
also a 2006 First-Team All-Conference selection.
The Atlantic Sun Player of the Week is announced every Tuesday during the
2007 tennis season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and
Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
