MACON, Ga. - Abby Leatherwood, a 2008 Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team selection, opened the spring season with a singles victory against Chattanooga Saturday evening. The sophomore's performance earned her the first Player of the Week award of her career, the conference office announced on Wednesday. Leatherwood becomes the first Bruin to earn the weekly honor since Elizabeth Conyer in the 2007 season.

In Belmont's 6-1 loss to Chattanooga on Saturday evening, the mathematics major picked up the lone singles win for the Bruins, as the sophomore remained undefeated for the 2008-09 season defeating Charlotte Bossy in straight sets 6-0, 6-2. For the season, she is 6-0 in singles play.
