More Records Fall for Novo
|

MACON, Ga. - USC Upstate senior Anna Novo set yet another career record for the Spartans last week; her third of the season. On Wednesday, she earned the second Player of the Week honor of the season and fourth of her career the conference office announced.
Novo posted perfect 3-0 singles and doubles marks as Upstate swept both Belmont and Lipscomb and added a 6-1 win over crosstown rival Wofford. The senior set her third career wins record this season, as she won her school-record 65th doubles match with sophomore partner Emilia Milovanovic on Friday afternoon in a 7-0 blanking of Belmont. Novo and Milovanovic downed Whitnie Warren and Abby Leatherwood, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Spartans. The win was Novo's school-record 146th career combined win (singles and doubles) and she added her 81st career singles win with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Warren at No. 1 singles. The Carcas, Venezuela native passed the doubles mark of 64 wins set by former teammate Diana Martinez (2004-07), and also passed Martinez earlier this year for both her singles and combined wins records. The information management major added two more singles and two more doubles wins in a doubleheader sweep of Lipscomb and Wofford on Saturday, losing just one singles game in four sets and just five doubles games in two sets.
