Stetson Women Shoot for Championship Title

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The 2009 Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Championship continued on Friday afternoon with semifinal matches at ETSU's Buddy Hartsell Courts. The Stetson women finished off No. 4 Campbell in a 4-0 win.
Stetson came on strong with its doubles team taking the point. The duos of No. 3 Katherine St. Clair/Shannon Gunning and No. 2 Breanna Atkinson/Katherine Nowicki defeated their Campbell opponents, 8-5 and 8-1, respectively. Campbell’s pair of Cristina Garcia and Ana Surviladze took one match from Stetson.
On the singles side, Atkinson finished first posting another notch on the win side for Stetson taking down Surviladze. The No. 1 and No. 3 matches finished within minutes of each other, both Galbarini and Unnati Purushotham securing the win for Stetson.
The Hatters return to the Championship match for the first time since 2006 to try to get their first title since 1989. Stetson will face the winner of the No. 2 ETSU and the 2008 champion, third-seeded Jacksonville in the Championship Match tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
