ETSU Heads to Title Game for Fourth Year

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The 2009 Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Championship continued on Friday afternoon with semifinal matches at ETSU's Buddy Hartsell Courts. The No. 2 Lady Buccaneers knocked off the defending champions, the Jacksonville Dolphins, 4-1.
The Lady Bucs started strong winning the doubles point with Tara Byrne and Karina Kedzo winning their match 8-2. The Player of the Year Yevgeniya Stupak and her partner Paula Jaime finished off their JU foes in an 8-4 victory.
Jacksonville's only win was the No. 6 singles match with Fernanda Carrero beating Whitney Trotter. The big smash of the night was senior Byrne as she came back from a second set-deficit against Dolphin Elvira Yusupova and won the set 6-4 in No. 2 singles to secure the ETSU win.
ETSU has made it to the championship match since joining the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2005. The Lady Bucs and the Hatters will face off for the second time in four years in the Championship Match tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
