JU's Ocana and UNF's Kohler Earn Athlete of the Week

Macon, Ga. -- Jacksonville's Janita Ocana (Jacksonville, Fla.) and UNF's Emily Kohler (Tallahassee, Fla.) both took Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week Award after top performances in the 2006 Atlantic Sun Championship.

En route to Jacksonville's second consectutive track title of the year, Ocana put on an impressive display, winning the 100 (11.88) and 200-meter dash (24.00) to earn "Most Outstanding Track Performer." Ocana also finished second in the long jump at 19'9.5" to qualify for regionals. She also claimed all-conference honors in the triple jump, finishing second with a jump of 36'11.5".

Junior Emily Kohler received the award for Most Outstanding Field Performer for her work in the long jump, high jump, javelin throw and the triple jump. Kohler took the top spot in the javelin throw with a distance of 39.23m. She then went on to finish the high jump in second place (1.65m) and both the long jump (5.67m) and triple jump (10.97m) in fourth.

The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the 2006 outdoor track season.

The 11-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Florida Atlantic, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, North Florida and Stetson.
