Wednesday, April 18, 2007 Macon, Ga. -- North Florida's Amy Stroder captured first place in the high jump at the FSU Invitational while setting a new school record and personal best en route to being named the Atlantic Sun's Athlete of the Week, league officials announced today. Stroder, a junior from Sugarland, Texas, broke an 18-year-old North Florida school record by clearing 5-10 (1.78m) in the high jump. Currently the Ospreys are not eligible to participate in post-season competition because they are in the reclassifying stages. However, if North Florida was eligible this season, Stroder's mark would have qualified her to compete at the NCAA East Regional. Her height is currently the fifth-best in the region and the 27th best in the nation at the Division I level. The award is the first of its kind for Stoder. The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the 2007 track season. The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08. |
