Maxwell's Throws Result in Weekly Honor

MACON, Ga. - Elizabeth Maxwell of Gardner-Webb took home her second Atlantic Sun Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field honor of the season after registering three top-three performances at Clemson’s Solid Orange Classic this weekend, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Maxwell, a native of Johnsonville, S.C., set a new school record in the discus after a toss of 133-02.00 (40.59m). The record-breaking effort by the senior biology major resulted in a second place finish. Maxwell also finished second in the hammer throw with a 155-02.00 (46.33m) fling. Her lowest finish of the day came in the shot put, in which she placed third with a heave of 39-07.75 (12.08m).

Maxwell owns the top discus and hammer throw marks in the A-Sun this season. Her school record in the discus marks the second time she broke a school record this season; she set a school record in the hammer throw after a 161-04.00 (49.17m) hurl at the 49er Classic on March 21.

The Atlantic Sun Conference is a 12-member league committed to Building Winners for Life, with a focus on academic and athletic integrity and a balance between the two for the student-athlete, and maintaining a high level of sportsmanship. Other Top Performers:

Laura Phillips, JU (Fr. - Throws - Education – St. Augustine, Fla.) – Phillips had a career day at the Seminole Invitational, taking second in the discus and shot put and fifth in the hammer throw. All three were career bests.

Mackenzie Howe, KSU (Fr. – Distance – Undeclared – Watkinville, Ga.) – The freshman won the 3k Steeplechase at the Seminole Track Invitational in a time of 11:18.36.
