Wednesday, April 29, 2009 MACON, Ga. -USC Upstate's Emily Tangwar competed in the esteemed Penn Relays on Thursday to compete in the world's largest annual track and field meet among 15,000 other athletes. She posted a school record time in the 5,000-meter race to earn her first Athlete of the Week honor, the conference announced Wednesday. The sophomore made her second-straight trip as one of a select group of A-Sun athletes who qualified to compete in Philadelphia. The nursing major led the Upstate women in the 5K at the Penn Relays with a 24th-place finish in 17:23.33, moving her to within hundredths of a second to the top spot in the conference. The sophomore beat runners from Vanderbilt, Harvard and Dartmouth. Tangwar's time set a school record and career best by a full second. The USC Upstate track and field team travels to Durham, N.C., to compete in the Duke Twilight on Sunday, May 3, and prepare for the A-Sun Conference Championships on May 15-16. The Atlantic Sun Conference is an 11-member league committed to Building Winners for Life.
