MACON, Ga. – Following the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, ETSU and Belmont each corralled two weekly awards after competing at the Charlotte Invite and Vanderbilt Invitational, respectively. Robert Purcell and Jasmine Ingram picked up the men’s and women’s track athlete awards for the Buccaneers, while the field events went to Belmont with Joe Frye and Jilian Lanklater.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Robert Purcell, ETSU (Sprints/Hurdles – Jr. – Raeford, N.C. – Sociology/Anthropology)
• First Career A-Sun Track Athlete of the Week award
• Set personal records in the 200m and 400m at Charlotte Invite
• His time of 48.13 in 400m gave Purcell second place
• Finished fifth in 200m with time of 21.65
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Jasmine Ingram, ETSU (Sprints – Sr. – Frederick, Md. – Criminal Justice)
• Second Career A-Sun Track Athlete of the Week award
• Set school record in 400-meter run at the Charlotte Invite
• Her time of 54.15 ranks 63rd in the nation and 28th in region
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Joe Frye, Belmont (Throws – Sr. – Roscommon, Mich. – Sports Administration)
• Third Career A-Sun Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week award
• Broke hammer throw record yet again with toss of 61.45m
• Mark ranks 38th in the nation and 18th in the region
• Finished in seventh place in discus throw with toss of 43.77m at Vanderbilt Invite
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:
Jilian Lanklater, Belmont (Jumps/Hurdles – Fr. – Lake Orion, Mich. - Songwriting)
• First Career A-Sun Field Athlete of the Week award
• Matched her school record in the high jump at the Vanderbilt Invitational
• Height of 1.70m gave her sixth place at the meet
• Mark ranks 48th in the NCAA East Region and second best in A-Sun this season
