Women's Track and Field Gets All-Academic Recognition

Date Posted: 7/17/2006

Three Atlantic Sun women's track and field teams today received All-Academic recognition from U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Jacksonville, ETSU and Gardner-Webb were the three A-Sun members to earn nods.

Completing their successful 2006 season four Dolphins; senior Tissilli Rogers, junior Ashley Williams, sophomore Fallon Heffernan and freshman Natasha Harvey each individually earned a spot on USTFCCA All-Academic track and field team.

In 2006, the Dolphins completed their most successful season in school history by winning the Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor and Outdoor Track Championships.

Harvey also represented the Dolphins in the long jump at the NCAA National Championship. Harvey also won the long jump at the U.S. Junior Track Championships on June 22 to earn a spot on the U.S. team for the World Junior Track Championships in Beijing, China starting in August.

ETSU's Anna Marie Ricciardi was also named to the team. She capttured a pair of conference high jump titles on the year, and finished 10th at the NCAA Mid-East Regional Championships with a career-best jump of 5-9.25 (1.76m). The public relations major also won high jump events at the Jesse Owens Classic and the Western Carolina Invitational, and took second overall at the Vanderbilt Invitational.

The Gardner-Webb team received all-academic honors as a whole.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, an athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and must have met the NCAA Division I regional or national qualifying standard in her event.
