Macon, Ga. -- After adding nearly eight feet to the Garner-Webb javelin record,
Sarah Wyszynski has been selected as the Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week, league
officials announced today.
Wyszynski, a sophomore from Wilbraham, Mass., competed at the Clemson Relays
where she posted a meet-best distance of 138-1 (43.10m) in the javelin to garner
a first place finish. Her mark in the event shattered the schools previous record
by nearly eight feet.
Her distance at the Clemson Relays also added over 13 feet to her throw from
the previous weekend.
The award is the first of its kind during the track and field season for Wyszynski,
and marks the third time that a GWU student-athlete has been honored as the
A-Sun Athlete of the Week.
The award has gone to a Gardner-Webb student-athlete three of the last five
times it has been presented dating back to May 3, 2006, when Elizabeth Maxwell
was honored. Lindsey Sutherland was honored on May 17, 2006.
Wyszynski has earned similar accolades, being named the Women's Soccer Defensive
Player-of-the-Week on three occasions during the 2006 season.
The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the
2007 track season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and
Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.

Davey finished third in the 5000-meter run at the 2007 Hornet Intive. She finished
behind two members of the Japanese national track team.
• Mecole Finch, Campbell
[Jr. -- Wilson, N.C. -- Pre-Law]
Finch broke the school record in the hammer throw en route to a first place
finish at the Cape Fear Classic. Her distance of 159-6 (48.62m) is currently
best in the conference by over 30 feet.
