Macon, Ga. -- After setting a new school record and turning in the nation's
13th best time in the steeplechase at the Duke Invitational, Campbell's Alicia
Valtin has been selected at the Atlantic Sun's Athlete of the Week, league officials
announced today.
Valtin, a senior from Sanford, N.C., took first place in the 26-athlete field,
besting runners from North Carolina, Duke, North Carolina State, Virginia and
Maryland, to finish with a time of 10:33.97. Her time in the event is her best
of the season, eight seconds faster than her previous NCAA Regional Qualifying
mark.
The honor is the second of Valtin's career during the outdoor season, having
last been honored on March 22, 2005.
The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the
2007 track season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and
Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
