Macon, Ga. -- Belmont’s Lynette Rives posted four school records and
two NCAA regional qualifying marks at the Vanderbilt Invitational en route to
being tabbed the Atlantic Sun’s Athlete of the Week, league officials
announced today.
Rives, a sophomore from Clarksville, Tenn., bested a field of 55 in the 100-meter
dash, posting a school record and NCAA regional qualifying time of 11.71. She
also recorded a school record and NCAA regional qualifying mark in the 200-meter
dash with a time of 23.72.
Along with her individual events, Rives also set new school records as part
of Belmont’s 400-meter relay and 1600-meter relay teams.
The award is the first of its kind for Rives during the outdoor season. She
has previously been honors twice during the indoor season, once in 2006 and
once in 2007.
The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the
2007 track season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and
Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
