Macon, Ga. – In the team's final tune-up before the conference meet,
Gardner-Webb's Kelly Bridges posted an A-Sun best mark in the pole vault and
broke her own school record while competing at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier
to earn Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week honors, league officials announced
today.
Bridges, a sophomore from Lilburn, Ga., cleared 11-9 3/4 (3.60) to place fifth
in the event. More importantly, her mark ranks her at the top of the Atlantic
Sun and bested the school record that she set last year by two inches.
The award is the first for Bridges during the outdoor season. She was also
honored during the final week of the 2007 indoor season as the AOTW on Feb.
14.
The Atlantic Sun Athlete of the Week is announced every Wednesday during the
2007 track season.
The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell,
ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and
Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
